Budhanilkantha Temple

Overview

Budanilkantha is a revered Hindu pilgrimage site located at the base of the Shivapuri Hill in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is famous for its large, reclining statue of Lord Vishnu, known as the Sleeping Vishnu, which is carved from a single block of black basalt stone and measures about 5 meters (16.4 feet) in length. The statue lies in a pond representing the cosmic sea and is considered one of the largest stone carvings in Nepal. Believed to date back to the 7th or 8th century, Budanilkantha attracts devotees and tourists alike, especially during the Haribodhini Ekadashi festival, when thousands gather to worship and offer prayers.
