A Journey to Manang with Sacred Trails Tours and Expeditions
When I planned my trip to Nepal, I was chasing peace — snow peaks, prayer flags, and quiet trails. What I found was something far more vibrant: a land where serenity and chaos coexist beautifully.
I booked my journey through Sacred Trails Tours and Expeditions, drawn in by their promise — “Your Journey. Our Expertise.” And from the very beginning, they lived up to it.
✈ Kathmandu: A Whirlwind Welcome
Our little travel group came together in Kathmandu — four travelers from three corners of the world: myself, a woman from England, and two lively friends from France. Despite our different accents and travel stories, we shared one goal — to experience the heart of the Himalayas.
We were greeted by our ever-smiling guide, Satyaman Gurung, who instantly made us feel like old friends. The streets of Kathmandu were a kaleidoscope of honking taxis, spice-scented air, and endless color. Overwhelming? A little. Fascinating? Absolutely.
Satyaman chuckled as he guided us through the busy Thamel lanes and said, “In Nepal, even chaos has its own charm.” He wasn’t wrong.
The Road to Manang — Comfort in the Midst of Madness
Instead of taking a public bus, Sacred Trails had arranged private transportation for our group — a sturdy jeep that felt like a blessing once we saw the condition of some mountain roads. The ride was long and bumpy, but filled with laughter, music, and stories from all corners of the world.
The road from Kathmandu to Manang was a journey in itself — winding through dusty valleys, lush hillsides, and dramatic cliffs where waterfalls crashed beside us. We stopped for tea in small roadside villages where children waved and locals offered warm smiles.
At times, the road was rough enough to make us hold our breath — but with Satyaman’s calm presence and local expertise, we always felt safe.
Manang: Where Mountains Meet Magic
After days on the trail, Manang greeted us with icy winds and views that words can hardly capture. The towering Annapurna ranges surrounded us like ancient guardians, and the air was so crisp it felt like you could drink it.
Sacred Trails had arranged a cozy local lodge, run by a kind family who treated us like their own. In the evenings, we gathered around the fire, sipping butter tea and sharing stories of our lives. Satyaman led us on short acclimatization hikes, pointing out hidden monasteries, frozen lakes, and peaks that felt close enough to touch.
For a moment, time stood still. The Beautiful Chaos of Traveling Nepal
Of course, Nepal’s charm comes with its quirks. The Wi-Fi was as moody as the mountain weather, and our tea breaks often turned into full conversations with strangers. But that’s the beauty of it — nothing ever goes perfectly, yet everything somehow feels right.
When a landslide delayed our return, Satyaman just smiled and brewed tea by the roadside. “In Nepal,” he said, “we don’t fight the mountains — we move with them.”
And we did.
Leaving, But Staying at Heart
As we drove back to Kathmandu, watching the prayer flags flutter against the mountains, I realized something: I had come for the Himalayas — for their peace, their power, their promise.
But I stayed for the chaos — the laughter of strangers, the rhythm of the roads, and the warmth of the people who turned a trip into an unforgettable memory.
Thanks to Sacred Trails Tours and our wonderful guide Satyaman Gurung, I didn’t just see Nepal and I experienced it, in all its beautiful unpredictability.
